Vision of Green Future BELARUS

Regardless of national borders, humanity faces challenges, including global climate change, inequality, war, racism, poverty, hunger, resource depletion, pollution, energy insecurity, rising authoritarianism, democratic backsliding, and demographic crisis.

Today, no single country can overcome these problems alone or remain unaffected by them — it’s simply impossible.

Nevertheless, in the “Green Belarus” Alliance, we see these problems can be fundamentally overcome. And a more just and sustainable world is achievable. Green Belarus envisions a nation guided by ecological wisdom, upholding the rule of law, social justice, democracy, transparency, community engagement, environmental friendliness, climate neutrality and adaptation, international cooperation, sustainability, and circularity. We believe Green Belarus can be a part of a global community built on these principles.

Green Belarus will celebrate diversity — cultural, ethnic, racial, gender, religious, and spiritual — fostering the development of relationships between people based on mutual respect. Society will be open to new ideas and people.

The more cities expand and become hubs of economic, social and cultural activity, their population, the more its influence and environmental impact increase. Green Belarus cities will consume resources and develop sustainably, minimizing harmful emissions and maximizing self-sufficiency.

Industrial areas will enjoy living conditions comparable to office or residential zones. Eco-friendly, affordable, and convenient public transport will become the primary mode of urban travel, freeing up space currently used for parking and roads for green spaces and recreation.

At the same time, any location within the territory of Green Belarus will be comfortable for living. That is, both in villages and small towns, there will be all the conditions for access to high-paying and multi-skilled jobs, a mobile and active lifestyle, and high social standards in medicine, education, and culture.

The territory outside of settlements will be used in the best way, from the point of view of the above-mentioned principles. Significant parts of the country will be designated as specially protected natural areas, encompassing unique ecosystems to preserve landscape and biodiversity. These areas will also be accessible for recreation and tourism, driving economic and cultural development.

The use of territories for economic activities will be aimed at sustainability and minimizing the impact on natural processes. Agricultural production and processing will be based on processes, excluding food contamination and negative health impacts.

Food production and processing will adhere to standards, excluding foodstuff contamination and negative health impacts.

Measures will be taken to enable active citizen involvement in decision-making processes related to socioeconomic and environmental issues, including urban and regional planning. Local authorities will manage and distribute local resources, with input from citizens and public organizations. This will foster horizontal connections between communities and collaborative initiatives to address local and regional challenges.

Green Belarus will ensure all citizens have the education, skills, and resources not only for decent work and pay but also for active civic engagement and understanding the value of their contributions.

Addressing many issues locally requires active community involvement in decision-making. To make responsible decisions, the public must be highly educated, especially in environmental and climate education.

Widespread self-governance and local decision-making participation will foster self-development and self-realization, including social mobility and political participation in the development of the country at the national level.

Only when democratic institutions operate with integrity, transparency, and accountability, can we make these a reality.

Ecological Wisdom

Enforcing energy and resource efficiency is a “Green Belarus” priority. This embraces a circular economy, developing climate-neutral cities and industries, and adapting to climate change. We are to prioritize green technology usage to protect our environment.

Social Justice

As we transition towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible economy, it is crucial that we actively promote and safeguard the interests of all members of society. Particular attention must be given to those who may be most vulnerable to the impacts of this transition.

The equitable use and distribution of public and natural resources is the key.

Democracy

We are keen on upholding the rule of law and involving stakeholders in interactive decision-making.

Transparency and accountability within our governance systems are essential.

International Cooperation

The key principle is “think globally, act locally”. We consider Belarus the actor in the regional and global landscape, championing the virtues of good neighborliness and fostering international collaboration to achieve our shared goals.
